At the moment, retail branding is the current topic in my graphic design class. Three teams are competing for the opportunity to brand a new retail store opening in 2018, so for this week I chose another branding example. Here we see a branding strategy to revive a small Japanese town's 400 year old ceramic business. I really like the use of typography as a decorative element. The design is simple, but bold.

I was attracted to this poster for its organic shapes and grid-like typographic layout. The poster invites the viewer to navigate a surrealistic landscape out of a Dali painting.
Kawasaki, Yumie., eds.  Shop Promotional Design: Hanbai Ni Tsunagaru Shoppu Dezain . : . Print. Here is a good example of branding and interior design. All the elements work harmoniously like a bowl of ice cream with sprinkles. The color palate is delicious and savory. You could walk in to this space and eat everything in site, even the walls.

Featured Designer Clea Forkert

Source: Forkert, Clea. Clea Forkert, Communication Arts, Commarts.com. October 18, 2017. For this week's post I chose to feature a Canadian designer named Clea Forkert. She graduated from Yoirk/Seridan Design in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She has over 14 years experience. She is currently working freelance. I think she has a very distinct late modern style. She uses formal asymmetrical compositions, negative space and sometimes transforms type into imagery. In my opinion I think her work is controlled, balanced and very legible.
